Barmer is known for its handicraft (hand embroidery and appliqué) work, its a huge production hub of it. There are more then 10000 skilled and semi skilled artisans involve in this business. Total sector turnover is Rs. 3.5 to 4 crores. Shiv is a Block of Barmer where at least 2,000 artisans are working on the basis of Job work. These artisans (women) work for traders, middlemen, small supplier, retailers. They get very low wage for this. One women artisan earns Rs. 7-10 per day and this is also not for whole month. Except this there are lots of rejections because artisans have not been supervised properly at the time of production.
