About the Cluster |
The term TERRACOTTA is derived from the words Terra and Cotta. Terra means Earth and Cotta means Baked. Ramgarh block is the developed area of District Alwar. Nearly about 1000 families of Kumhar caste ( Galab or Prajapat) of district Ramgarh are engaged in making clay potteries. Approximately 1.8 lacs people live in Ramgarh block & nearly 2000 – 4000 people live in the 50 pockets of Ramgarh block. Out of which nearly 1000 people are devoted in making Clay Pottery items in pockets. There are 400 artisans working for Pottery and Terra cotta cluster, Ramgarh, Alwar. Average income of these artisans is 60-75 Rs/day. Process of making Clay Pottery results in Plant Pots of different sizes (6 inches, 9 inches), Gulabdani, Guldastae, Lamp, Different styles of Ganeshji, Chandani, Surahi, Matka- Matki, Clay Monuments etc. that are made by the artisans. Our main products are traditional products and Contemporary products.
